In this episode, you are going to learn how to use properly the word: ‘home’ ‘casa’. I mean, not just the word, but how to use it when we want to say, for example: “vuelvo a casa’, ‘llego a casa’, ‘salgo de casa’ or even ‘estoy en casa’.

So, back to English! What do we need to be careful with when we use this term in English?

Can you guess it? Well, as often happens, or it has to to (tiene que ver) with prepositions. You guessed it!

And now, you are going to ask me, well the, which preposition do I need to use with ‘home’, so that it is correct? And my answer is: None! 

Exactly, you heard that right. We use no preposition with ‘home’ when we are going home or coming back home, we use nothing at all.

The typical mistake here is to say: ‘I am coming to home’ or 'I am going to the my home’ -> No!!!!

With ‘home’ there is always ‘a hotline’ (una línea directa).

But if you want to say: ‘hoy me quedaré en casa’,   that is different, there is no movement, and then you will use the preposition ‘AT’. The same happens if you want to say: ‘estoy en casa’, there is no movement here, you are not going anywhere, so, you will say: ‘I am AT home, today I will stay at home, tomorrow I will stay at home or last night they stayed at home’.

The tense, the verbal tense, is not important, but the preposition will always be ‘at’ (with ‘to be at home’ and ‘to stay at home’)

However, if we start moving and leaving home or coming back home, then there is no preposition.

In summary, remember you will always say: ‘go home’, ‘return home’, ‘come back home’ even ‘run home’ or ‘fly home’, obviously in this case you need to take an airplane.

Pues bien, seguro que has pillado muchísimo de lo que te he explicado, pero aún así, cuanto más repitas las cosas y los conceptos más claros los tendremos y con más facilidad nos vendrán sin pensar siquiera. Y ese es nuestro objetivo al hablar inglés, que esto llegue a ser algo automático.

Así que allá vamos:

La palabrita ‘home’, casa u hogar, es muy especial porque no lleva preposición alguna, ni artículo tampoco.

Nunca, nunca digas: ‘I go to the home’, nunca, ni tampoco: ‘I go to the my home’.

En lugar de ello dirás: ‘I go home’ y punto. Ya está. Facilísimo. Plantas la palabra ‘home’ detrás del verbo de movimiento y listos. Si te fijas, he dicho verbo de movimiento porque esto es así solo cuando nos desplazamos a casa, si ya estamos en ella es diferente.

De esa forma, si por ejemplo quieres decir: ‘estoy en casa’ o ‘me quedo en casa’, dirás: ‘I am AT home’ o ‘I stay AT home’.

Utilizarás la preposición ‘at’.

‘Go home’, ‘come home’, ‘ come back home’,  BUT:  ‘be at home’, ‘stay at home’.

Repite estas frases como si de un mantra se tratara y verás que cuando tengas que decir algo relacionado con ‘home’ te salen sin pensar.
